My Mountaintop
I sat upon my mountaintop,
and watched the seasons change.
You may think this odd of me,
but for me it isn't strange.
For you see, on my mountaintop,
I get a glimpse of whats below.
All in life looks so small,
but it isn't,this I know.
But up here on my mountaintop,
I can put things truly in their place.
I have time to stop and think,
but only at my pace.
The things that bothered me down below,
have little meaning up here high.
They are nothing I have to worry about,
so I smile and give them a sigh.
What once was large,is little now,
and troubles I know just how to stop.
I come and relax while the seasons change,
up here on my mountaintop.

A person can find beauty in every place that they look, if they so desire to find
it. The state of west Virginia has it in every corner of the state.Industry has taken it's toll on a lot of our natural beauty,
but not all of it has been destroyed.
Most people may never have been able to experience the beauty of the mountians or nature at its fullest. In my honest opinion,
they sure are missing out on a lot.Included on this page are photos taken from many areas of the state.
They are photos that I feel show the true beauty
of the place known as,"The Mountain State".

"Breathtakingly beautiful" are the hills of West Virginia. Sadly, it has been estimated that over 1 million acres of mountian
top land is destroyed each year.
This estimate is projected to increase over the coming years as the need and demand for coal grows. As information becomes
available, it seems as if the US government, namely the Bush administration
, keeps re-writing the laws to allow more and more lands to be destroyed. Mountain hollows are filled with refuse from these
areas and the downstream effects are quite catastrophic.

My soul craves the peace and tranquility of the mountians. I have traveled from the coast of Florida to Maine and all the
places in between.
But I am grateful that the place where I live is as rich in natural beauty as the state of West Virginia.

Many times throughout the year nightly news brings such devastating stories from areas torn or destroyed by such
natural disasters as tornadoes and
hurricanes. Although the state of West Virginia does in fact have surface areas that are low lying as the areas in the
mid west, it does not suffer with the threat of tornadoes as
other states. Hurricanes are mainly tropical depressions when they pass over the state bringing with it rain and wind but
never the disaster they cause on the coastal states.

These are some of the breath taking views high atop Cheat Mountain in Pocohontas County,
at the Bald Knob observation platform. View is only accessible
when you take the two hour train ride to the summit pulled by a Shay locomotive at the Cass Scenic Railroad.
